Wash Po- Former U.S. Senator Possible Passenger In AK Plane Crash

A U.S. government official says  former U.S. senator Ted Stevens (R) is believed to have been on an airplane that has crashed in a remote part of southwest Alaska.

The National Transportation Safety Board told the Associated Press that five of the nine people aboard the plane are believed to have been killed.

The U.S. government official said Alaska authorities were told that Stevens was among several passengers on the plane, AP reported. The official, who spoke on grounds of anonymity, said Stevens's condition is unknown.
